Fish farm inspections (ROV) can meet GREENER standards with AI solutions!
Fouling refers to the multitude of organisms growing on fish farm nets. Overgrowth of fouling causes lower oxygen levels inside the cage and fosters conditions that lead to fish illnesses.
Fouling also includes animals that have stinging cells. These are poisonous compounds released as a defense mechanism. These compounds are released into the water when heavily fouled nets are cleaned, which destroys or reduces other types of sea species, causing an imbalance in the ecosystem.
If these compounds come into contact with fish gills and skin, they can heavily affect their health. Avoiding cleaning of heavily fouled nets will reduce this risk and decrease the gutted weight of ill fish in fish farms by tons.
The seabed below the cages has a limited receiving capacity. Copper (the compound in the anti-fouling used for the nets) is known to cause the natural decomposition of feed spillage and feces from the fish. Any flushing will also remove anti-fouling from the nets, causing it to fall on the seabed.
